Project Summary:

Israel Palestine Partnership SigningIn December 2007, U.S. President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced a new public-private partnership focused on creating economic opportunity for the Palestinian people.  The U.S.-Palestinian Partnership (UPP) is a critical component in facilitating progress toward a two-state solution, wherein Israel and Palestine can live side by side, in peace, security, and prosperity.

Aspen Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson leads the partnership, along with co-chairs Ziad Asali, President, American Task Force for Palestine; Jean Case, CEO, The Case Foundation; Lester Crown, Chairman, Henry Crown and Company; and Sandy Weill, Chairman Emeritus, Citigroup.

UPP has asked TelStar to participate in a call center development project to help create job opportunities for Palestinians in Israel.  The call center will be located in East Jerusalem and it will provide Arabic & English language call center services for business customers in the Middle East and North Africa.

The immediate objectives of the call center include:

  • Creating 500 new job opportunities and infusing 4 Million in labor wages into the economy over five years.
  • Creating new job opportunities for women and disabled people.
  • Providing positive incentives from the United States to facilitate the Israeli and Palestinian peace process.
  • Emphasizing the power of commerce to contribute to Peace and Stability.

Rural Community Work from Home

Project Name: Rural Community Work from Home

Project Location: Rural Communities

Project Start Date: 2008

Project Summary:

Work at home communications job opportunities for people in rural communities with declining job opportunities.  Virtual call center agents could do many things:  customer service, tech support, sales, collections, etc.

Economic/Environmental Impact:

Environmental benefits of enabling remote workers include the reduction of carbon emissions from commuting, the capping of energy requirements for large facilities by not needing additional expansion, and the reduction of urban sprawl as more workers are finding it necessary to move to urban areas for work.  Economic improvements are gained in rural communities by simply enabling local job opportunities.  Governments and businesses can benefit economically through increased retention due to limited job opportunities, and often lower labor costs.  Social benefits include providing opportunities for parents to have more time with their families while commuting less and increasing job opportunities rural communities.

Toll free call center for people to get information on reducing their energy costs. More personal than a self study website.

Economic/Environmental Impact:

Improve the environment with immediate individual change, save consumers money, and create jobs.

Project Name: Disaster Displaced Workers Virtual Call Center

Project Location: Anywhere Following a Natural Disaster

Project Start Date: 2008

Project Summary:

A virtual call center that can provide rapid job opportunities for people in areas that have experienced a natural disaster. Rapid response job opportunities will be available for people until their local economy can be rebuilt. Disaster recovery areas such as Louisiana in 2005 are examples of potential applications. Job opportunities can be provided as soon as internet access can be restored.

Economic/Environmental Impact:

Providing rapid job opportunities allows local residents to remain in their area and contribute to rebuilding their local communities instead of being forced to abandon their communities for job locations. Governments could reduce the cost of aid required by providing tangible work opportunities with productive output.

Project Location: Chihuahua, Mexico

Project Summary:

To provide job opportunities from Mexican Federal and State government entities as well as private companies to the people of Chihuahua, Mexico.

Economic/Environmental Impact:

By creating new local job opportunities, communities in Chihuahua will be able to retain more of their talented young workers who are currently leaving their families for job opportunities outside of the state.
